MEET OUR BOARD MEMBERS

Allen Johnson Jr. was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He graduated from the Lawrenceville School in 1954 and attended the University of Alabama. He served in an armored infantry scout platoon in Germany. He then received a degreein botany from the University of Miami.

In 1976 he was elected to the Board of the Coca-Cola Bottling Company United and served for forty-one years earning the title Emeritus.

Allen lived in Vermont for 23 years, with his first wife, Linda, son, Colby, and daughter, April. There he founded the Vermont State Craft Center, studied jazz guitar and produced guitar study material with noted jazz guitarist Barry Galbraith.

Allen now lives on Mercer Island, Washington with his wife Jill, son Ben and two dogs – Piccolo and Chloe.

President & Managing Partner, BrandTruth Marketplace Intelligence Services (2002 – 2018) Stephen founded BrandTruth® in 2002. BrandTruth has done research for the leadership teams of Fortune 500 brands Nike, Apple, Coca-Cola, HP, Nintendo, The North Face, Columbia Sportswear, Hallmark, and other major consumer brands. Mr. Bosch created a group of dedicated Brand Marketing and Retail industry veterans who use their extensive experiences in helping major brands connect with consumers and optimize ROI on go-to-market investments.

Regional Mgr. / Vice President, Visual Merchandising (1994 – 2002) Worked closely with major brands including Nike, Adidas, Nintendo, Columbia Sportswear, Microsoft, Starbucks, and other major brands to customize visual merchandising solutions for marketplace applications (including full Store-in-Store and Showrooms. Developed new processes to measure ROI on major product/marketing initiatives.)

M. Dane Waters, Chief Executive Officer, Tipping Point Strategies.

Dane currently serves as the CEO of Tipping Point Strategies, a communications and advocacy firm based in Washington, DC. TPS provides strategic advice to campaigns, governments and NGO’s all over the world.

Dane has worked on six continents with elected officials, activists, NGO’s and government entities including the United Nations, the United States Department of State and the International Republican Institute. He was a political appointee in President George H. W. Bush’s administration, served as the Political Director of the Humane Society of the United States, the largest NGO in the US with 12 million members, and was the National Field Director for US Term Limits. Dane has worked on five presidential campaigns and numerous of other candidate elections in the United States as well as presidential and prime ministerial campaigns around the world. Dane has worked on over 60 ballot campaigns and is one of the few people who has worked on all aspects of direct democracy campaigns – from helping governments draft the laws that will govern the election, to helping win or defeat an issue on the ballot, to providing international observers to ensure that a referendum election meets internationally accepted norms.

Dane is the founder and Chair of the Initiative & Referendum Institute at the University of Southern California – a non-profit non-partisan research and educational organization established to study direct democracy. He is the co-founder of the Initiative & Referendum Institute Europe and the Initiative & Referendum Institute Asia.

Dane has also been active in political reform efforts serving as an advisor to Unite America, formerly called the Centrist Project, as a member of Harvard Appleseed Electoral Reform Project and a board member of the Citizens in Charge Foundation.

Dane has authored and edited numerous articles and books on direct democracy and has provided commentary on governance issues to newspapers, radio talk shows, and television stations around the world. He consulted on the television shows West Wing and the Weakest Link. He was a regular political columnist for Campaigns & Elections Magazine and currently writes a political blog called This is the Point.

Dane is also very active in animal welfare issues, especially the protection of elephants, and is the founder of The Elephant Project. He does a regular blog and podcast on elephant issues which can be accessed by visiting The Elephant Times.
